Trak Global marks entry into Canadian telematics sector with senior hire
Trak Global has appointed Tim Mont as head of Trak Global in Canada. Tim joins the business from RSA, where he was director of operations and sales support, telematics, for RSA Canada.
Bob Skerrett, MD Trak Global Insurance said: “I am delighted Tim has joined our senior team. He will oversee our entry into the Canadian personal lines market where we need a strong understanding of what really matters to customers as well as our partner insurers and brokers.”
Mont joins Trak Global a few months after the Crewe-based business announced that Luis Peña had joined the team to spearhead Trak Global’s entry into the Spanish telematics market. Skerrett said Mont’s hire was further evidence of Trak Global’s desire to build an international presence.
Aside from his practical experience developing telematics for RSA in Canada, Mont, a Canadian national, brings 20 years’ experience of working in the Canadian insurance market in both broking and insurance.
Mont explained that Canada is an emerging market for Telematics. “As yet there are few telematics players in Canada, giving us a fantastic opportunity to show how customers can take greater control of their premiums, offering an alternative to commodity-based shopping for motor insurance that is as much a part of the Canadian market as it is in the UK.”
Skerrett said that Trak Global was actively expanding its footprint into foreign markets, including North America, Europe and the Middle East.
“Telematics is a fantastic British success story, not simply in terms of the technology, but also because the UK’s world-leading record on road safety makes us an attractive bet for foreign governments as well as insurers and customers.”
“Canada’s similarity to the UK, both in the way the market is regulated and the population demographic, makes it a prime target for Trak Global, and Tim’s appointment marks the start of our plan to build our market share in Canada during the next 18 months-two years.”
